Is the food good? YES! Is it really good? YES! Is it good enough to overlook crappy service, shoddy facilities, and general lack of caring? NO! Look, I love the dodgy dive place as much as the next guy, and for the sake of awesome food and drink, will often overlook much that is not-so-awesome about a place. In this case, the food was delicious, but did not outshine everything else. By "everything else", I mean rude service, a dirty and understaffed restaurant, and absolutely everything in styrofoam, even when it's "for here"...really? I know this ain't California, but c'mon people, it's still the United States in 2014, can we at least a token amount of effort here for the environment? Jeez... That said, my shrimp was really tasty and fresh. Good enough to merit 2 stars on their own. The fries, salad, and roll it came with were weak, but OK. I won't make a return trip, there's plenty of other great seafood in the area...

Look if you're in the area and you don't stop by here you are plain missing the best thing in New Iberia. My girlfriend and I thought it was extremely sketch when we first pulled up after seeing it in the local travel magazine, but once we hashed it out for a minute we went in. THANK GOD WE DID! Seriously my new favorite restaurant since I moved to the area. Walking into a cinder block building may seem less than appealing, but it's always what's on the inside that counts right? The old time lunch counter is situated as you walk in decorated in traditional Louisiana fashion. As you walk up to the counter you look around the corner to see a more than spacious seat yourself dining area. They have daily plate lunch specials as well as seasonal items that usually appear around crawfish season I'm an avid po-boy enthusiast and I have to say they are about tied with my favorite place in all of Lousiana...or anywhere for that matter. The kitchen prepares your meal as you order it, and you can see everything going on from the dining room. I've tried most the stuff on the menu at this point and have to say you really can't go wrong. I literally always hated potato salad before this place, but after my girlfriend got me to try some of hers I now have found another taste to add to my palate. Prices aren't too bad but I have to say the po boys aren't cheap, but well worth what that cost as everyone of them is known for being overstuffed. At about 250 lbs and an appetite for a guy about twice my size, even I am more then full walking away after a shrimp po boy. If you have the opportunity DON'T MISS IT! PS Try not to miss their weekend BBQ

Crazy great food! I have special diet needs and they took care of everything for me the chef even came out called me Mr. Randy and took the time to probe and discover my knees when it came to my diet.seafood gumbo was amazing very fresh definitely made the same day. Because they gave me a time and extra so very nice couldn't give this place a higher recommendation

Great food!! When they're busy the staff can be a little rude, it's happened multiple times. They're not very personal and customer service isn't high on their list but making good food is! Once they refused to put our to go order on separate tickets, so one person had to pay for the entire order and exchange payment for everyone's food later. It caused a mess. If you dine in be prepared to shower once you get home because the food smell stays with you! Lol If you are craving some good cajun food, gumbo, fried seafood, poboys... They've got 'em!

Best place in town to eat. Awesome po boys and seafood gumbo. I ate lunch and dinner there in one day.

  • Kerry W.

The best poboy and gumbo. Just like home. The outside is very misleading. This is a hidden secret.

Excellent oyster and shrimp po boy Great gumbo! People were so friendly and helpful! Don't go anywhere else!

The food is excellent but here's the deal and I'm going to start in right away before I lose any readers the ridiculous packaging has to go. I can't give anybody more than 3 stars for being lazy and careless when it comes to styrofoam and plastic. You should see the gigantic pile of waste as you head out of this restaurant. Everything is served in styrofoam and plastic. They have a huge kitchen. Save yourself some money, give the landfill a break, get some cheap dinnerware and a dishwasher. I know we're in the land of ecoterrorists as every other business is oil related but you could make an effort. There's no excuse for this nonsense in this century. It was really annoying to try to cut my fried pork chop in a styrofoam clam with your tiny plastic fork and knife. It was almost impossible and I ended up picking up the chop dripping with red beans and making a mess. The food was very good. I had the Monday special. Red beans and rice with your choice of sausage or a fried pork chop, corn bread and banana pudding. The red beans and rice was good, pork chop was a little tough but tasty, corn bread was moist and a little sweet and the banana pudding wasn't entirely home made. I think the pudding was banana boxed pudding with banana flavoring. I wasn't impressed. Lunch was a good value. I like the place well enough but can't endorse this. There's a really highly rated cafeteria downtown I think I will try next time. I looked in the window and they all had real forks and knives.

I don't go to New Iberia often, but I was in the area, and wanted to try this place out. The staff was nice and this place can get pretty pack. A hole in the wall with a whole bunch of cajun and country decor everywhere. We had the following: - Plate lunch - Dirty rice, baked chicken, string beans, garlic bread, & yellow cake - delicious and very well seasoned - Shrimp Po-boy w/ fries - decent po-boy, I would just stick to the plate lunches I would come here again for the plate lunches.

Drab windowless building, easily overlooked, no clue to the excellent food you'll find on the cafeteria tables inside. I came here on the Tabasco tasting tour, and we had samples of gumbo: chicken/sausage and seafood. Both excellent, lighter and tastier than the burnt-tasting gumbos you get at Creole restaurants in New Orleans. I liked the seafood version best.

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY! I SOOOO ENJOY going to the NO because I KNOW I'll get to eat GOOD SOUTHERN FOOD like there is NO tomorrow. I NEVER eat from any place I that we have in Cali because what's the point? Plus I don't eat out too much while I'm here cause my fam and my friends fam is usually cooking for us. And ya'll KNOW home cookin is the BOMB-A-LICIOUS and even better than I could get in the streets! I'm always surprised I don't come back weighing 300 pounds! I had been given a few orders to bring back PO BOYS! So I went to the source (my besty) that lives in the area and asked where I could get GOOD PO BOYS! He didn't even have to think about it. He replied...hands down BON CREOLE in the Berry. That New Iberia for the rest of you. SO before I fly out we drove here for lunch and so I could place my order. We drive up and the parking lot is baby butt tiny and PACKED to the gills. Several po-po had just finished up and were leaving but for ever parking sport they had someone took as they left. Luckily for me I managed to snag the last one right in front. We walk in and there are only a few peeps in line. I glance at the menu even though I already know what I want just to make sure I don't miss anything yummy I want to order to take back with me. They have just about everything...Frog legs...check, po boys, check, oysters check, gumbo and red beans and rice...check. Plus they do burgers and fries and drinks. They also do a daily plate special which is a GREAT DEAL and comes out quickly if'in your in a hurry. LOL! I order a 6 inch grilled po boy with cheese and bacon no tomato with a drink for my lunch. Then I ordered one 12 inch fried shrimp po boy all the fixins', one 12 inch fried oyster po boy all the fixins, my friend ordered a 12 inch fried shrimp po boy with all the fixins' and French fries and a drink. We got our drinks and went to find a seat and was able to score the last table. You'd think this place was HUGH inside right? WORNG! It's NOT. There is one medium sized room with tables and chairs and a smaller room in the back with some tables. Most are community tables but they fill up quickly with large groups but if there is a seat or two available the friendly peeps of in the Berry don't mind sharing. They also have some single tables as well but like I said seating is a premium and peeps DON'T mind standing and waiting for a table and chair to become available. Once your order is ready they HOLLER your name at the top of their lungs so you can "COME AND GET IT". All food comes out in a bag and they have utensil, napkins and salad dressing in packets for you to select from. I thought the salad dressing in packets on the side was as awesome idea. That way all they have to do is make the salad and you can select your own dressing or mix and match! My PO BOY was SLAP YO MOMMA GOOD! My eyes rolled back into my head like I was having a seizure. I was having a mouth orgasm and a "When Harry Met Sally" moment through my entire meal. So FRICKIN SCRUM-DILLY-UMPTOUS! Shrimp pouring out they give you SOOO MANY! NOT LIKE here in Cali where they give you 5 mini shrimp and then have the nerve to cut those in half and put on a sand for you. NO BUENO! You could have made two sands with all the shrimp they give you. OMG! There is NO ONE to clean up after you but that's ok because there is an unwritten rule to NOT BE A MISS or MR SLOPPY PIG! EVERYONE CLEANS UP AFTER THEMSELVES and leaves the tables NICE and CLEAN! There are several large trash cans for you to put your trash in and they make sure they don't overflow which is GREAT! I'm going BACK OF COURSE later this year so I will be hitting this place up YET AGAIN! And that is how you do a PO BOY in the BERRY!

Awesome gumbo and even better service! Will stop by for lunch any time I'm in the area for sure.

First timer..had seafood gumbo and a crawfish poboy. The crawfish had quite a bit of flavor and the poboy was loaded with them. The seafood gumbo was very good as well. No fine dining here, just good food in an extremely casual environment. I was a staunch Old Tyme Grocery fan, but, I have to say, Bon Creole might just be better!

Woke up on Sunday wanting some barbecue and remembered someone telling me this place had it on Sunday. Headed there and paid over $9 for a few slices of brisket, a small scoop of rice dressing, very little beans and potato salad. WAY overpriced! And was just OK. Many other places in town to get bbq on Sunday....should have gone to one of those. Not worth the price at all!!

This place is hard to find, but when you do, you look up and see that you are at the end of the rainbow. I had Gumbo, a combo fried platter with catfish, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, hush puppies, slaw and red beans and rice for $8.75. You carry your food to the table there are many kinds of condiments including my favorite, Daigles. This was the best lunch we had in Louisiana. By far better than any place in New Orleans. I highly reccomend this place it is worth finding.

Delicious. I'm a new orleans native and this place is as good as it gets, especially for the price. Go for the food and don't expect much else. I drive out of my way to get this once in a while.

I live in Houston but travel to New Iberia frequently for business. I eat here every chance I get. The best shrimp po-boy around - excellent quality bread, full of shrimp lightly fried, great remoulade. A second favorite is the chicken and sausage gumbo. Get there early for lunch, the line gets long around noon. Don't miss it.

Great little local hole-in-the-wall place. They serve generous portions of great seafood. The gumbo was also excellent.

  • Jeff S.

I love Bon Creole! My mother's roots are from Abbeville & New Iberia. The gumbo here is made the same way my mom & other family members make it: Very simple. The roux tastes homemade & the serving of chicken, sausage, & rice was probably the most generous of any other gumbo's I tried on my recent trip through Acadiana. Both my wife & I also ordered half-poboys. Also simple; not too spicy & very lightly breaded so it didn't take too much away from the crawfish flavor (of mine). This restaurant looks rough on the outside but those generally are the best places! IMO, this restaurant is a true diamond in the rough & I will go back next time I'm in the area. Well worth the visit!

So glad I found this place thanks to yelp! THE best poboy I've eaten in years! I tried the roast beef because I read reviews saying it was delicious, and they weren't lying. They make the roast beef themselves and it's so flavorful and yummy. The sandwich itself is juicy and perfect. This was my first time eating here, but definitely not my last! It's a hole in the wall place and not very sightly on the exterior, but don't let that fool you...they got it going on in there!

  • John T.

Gumbo is great! Potato Salad is just right! The fried seafood including the PO boys are excellent. The food is quality the people are friendly and the prices are fair. One of Best authentic south Louisiana cuisine in the area .

Don't be turned off by the exterior! This place has great po-boys. The portions are large. The fried shrimp was plentiful.

Food is absolutely amazing! And the prices are perfect! The staff was very friendly and helpful, since I am not from this area they gave me great suggestions on what to order!!

This is a good place to get a shrimp poboy fix! It's a hole in the wall, counter service kind of place. My husband had the roast beef and swiss, which was pretty good, but contrary to what we read in the reviews, not as good as the fried shrimp. Maybe it was the quality of the beef? It wasn't that it was bad, it was just not the best. But on to the shrimp...they're fried in a light batter, so they're slightly crisp. They pile them on the poboys, too, which is pretty awesome. I had a half poboy (6") with a few shakes of tabasco. It was messy with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, mayo), but so good and so filling. My husband definitely liked my sandwich more.

    (4)
  • Bea B.

Love, love, love their over stuffed shrimp po-boys! These are the best! If you only get one thing; this is it!!

  • Amy W.

So glad I found this restaurant, though my waistline is, perhaps, NOT quite so pleased. Those other reviewers that waxed on and on about how amazing the roast beef po boy is here? THEY ARE NOT EXAGGERATING. Some kind of alchemy happens between the bread, the beef, the mayo, and the other fixings to make this one of the best sandwiches ever. Again, no lie, people--this po boy is magic. *Edible magic!* I tried a shrimp po boy the third time I went and was disappointed because it was a bit too salty for me, but really, I think my mouth was going to be unhappy with anything that wasn't the roast beef. It's crazy. I thought the gumbo was outstanding, too, by the way.

No matter what cuisine it is, the closest thing to home cookin' is found in the most run-down, raggedy places. C'est vrai! So my half-Cajun had been on a "Gumbo Quest" all week. He wanted to show me where his 'people' were from. While driving around and checking out the Yelp feed we were led to this place. Their sign is mostly faded and you can very easily miss it. Long story short: according to my coonass M-I-L, cajun food is very simple, not like creole food. Don't you even dare confuse the two. That was what we got. Great, simple, home cookin'. The gumbo was off the chain! Unlike other gumbos we sampled (and there were many) this one was very generous on the chicken and sausage and the roux was superb. We were surrounded by people who were clearly regulars for many years. They were having gumbo too. Any questions?

This is my favorite place for poboys in New Iberia. The building is unremarkable, even a little scary looking. The inside is older but always clean. The order taker has always been pleasant & the rest if the staff you actually never interact with and they don't speak. I always take out so not sure how their table service is. Their famous roast beef poboys are really not all that tasty to me. They lack flavor in my opinion but that could be my personal preference. Their shrimp, crawfish & fish poboys are loaded down, hot & seasoned well. My son loves to get 1/2 roast beef & 1/2 ham & cheese & mix them. No, they won't 1/2 & 1/2 two like other places, don't even ask. Their bread is soft & fluffy & a pillow of deliciousness. My favorite thing here is the chicken sausage gumbo. Dark & rich, theirs is (was?) my favorite place for gumbo. Maybe this was a fluke? Maybe the regular cook was sick? Don't know but my gumbo a couple days ago was seriously not good. Thin & weird. I'll chalk that up to a fluke. All in all, our go to place for consistently overloaded, hot fabulous poboys.

If you are passing through New Iberia, LA and want a good lunch this is the place. I'm a native of this area and when I come home I try to visit this place. Last Thursday, I had the baked chicken lunch plate. It was okay. The rice dressings (dirty rice for those outside of LA) was seasoned well. However, the baked chicken was a little dry. My daughter had a half order shrimp po-boy. She could not eat it all.

This place is a bit off the beaten path, well away from the main tourist areas. The building looks a little run down, and when you get inside it still looks like a place that you might think twice ordering food from. If you turned around and left you'd be making an incredible mistake. This place was recommended to us by a local years ago, and it's still wonderful. No bells and whistles, you go up to the counter and place your order, then you go into the adjoining room and wait for them to call your name so you can pick up your food. The poorboys are enormous. I had a fried shrimp poorboy, and although the shrimp were small there were an awful lot of them they were absolutely delicious. The loaf of French bread was big, fresh, and again absolutely delicious. My wife had a salad with the grilled shimp. Again, the shrimp were small but there were a ton of them, they were well seasoned, perfectly cooked and delicious. Seafood used to be really cheap in New Iberia and Lafayette. It's gone up a lot in the past several years (particularly in Lafayette), but it's still a really good bargain here. You can buy a cheaper poorboy, but you'd have a hard time finding as much food for the price. Come really hungry, or bring a friend and share one.

Traveling through and heard it was a local hangout for simple great food. The outside doesn't look like much; but the food makes up for it. Dining are was mostly quiet because everyone was mostly eating! A great WBB place!

Being from Chicago, I'm a tough critic when it comes to food. However, this has to be one of the best seafood spots in this town. The po' boys are delicious! The customer service could be better. But overall enjoyable experience!

The lady friend and I decided on this place to eat on our way to Avery Island based on the Yelp reviews. We thought a cup of Gumbo and a Po-boy would be the perfect lunch. I,So we typed the address into the phone and we past it right up. Bon Creole Lunch Counter is on a 3 lane 1 way road and the lady friend couldn't get over in time. It would help if there was a sign. I'm sure the locals don't need a sign but some of us Nola folks traveling your way do! Anyway we walked in and after having drank a Rt 44 Diet Dr Pepper w/vanilla I had to pee! Luckily the bathroom was immediately on my right. I went and as i pee's I was startled by the bob cat mounted on the shelf next to me. Luckily I didn't have to poop too or it would have easily scared the shit out of me. There also was a deer head mounted right above the toilet and if had been 6 inches taller, I would have made out with it. Anyway we ordered our food. We each got the same thing a half of Roast Beef Po-boy, and a small chicken and andouille gumbo. We then went into the dining room and waited for our names to be called. The room was full of mounted animals, hand made tables, and old Louisiana decor. The place was very busy for a Saturday lunch place. The Roast beef was ok at best. a Lot of meat, little gravy, the usually dressing but not a lot of flavor. The bread was softer than most Po-boys I've had in Nola but that part was pretty good. The gumbo was really good. The roux was oily and on the lighter side(which ordinarily I don't like) but had a great flavor and a lot of meat. This all came with a little cup of potato salad. It was a decent place and if I lived close, I could see going in on occassion Everything is served in styrofoam bowls and paper plates. The gumbo and rice are seperate and you have to pour it all in a bigger styrofoam bowl which was kind of a pain in the ass. No plates given for the po-boy so you eat on the soggy paper even for eat in orders.

Found this place on Yelp and while Avery Island was on our "to do" list that day, we decided to check out the roast beef po'boys that reviewers raved about. It's a hole-in-the-wall but we love those. Walked in to hardly anyone there but that quickly... very quickly changed once the Saturday lunch crowed came in. That's a good sign when a place like this fills up on a Saturday. We ordered each a half size roast beef po'boy and small gumbo (comes with potato salad and rice on the side). We waited a really long time for just this. Not like they had to fry anything. There was lots of people working in the kitchen. The po'boy was just ok. So many places claim to be the best but my favorite is still The Chill Out on the bayou. The gumbo was the star. Dark roux just as I like it. I could have just eaten the gumbo and felt satisfied. Overall it seems like a great lunch place. Didn't look like there was much else around there to grab a homey hot meal. Would definitely try this place again if ever in the area.

Don't let the appearance outside send you away. It's cozy and clean inside. Our chicken and sausage gumbo had a good flavor but I prefer thicker gumbo not a thin broth. The shrimp were good but I like larger shrimp not bay shrimp. It's worth a stop.

Of course I had to have an authentic PO Boy on my trip. I was not sure I would have time while in NOLA so using Yelp I found this spot in New Iberia. I may not be an expert but I think this place could easily hold it's own against any po boy you could get in NOLA. It is a tiny hole in the wall for sure. It was clean and had a bar or tables to sit at. You place your order at the counter and pick it up when it is done. Grabbed a beer from the cooler while I waited. I went with the roast beef and it was heaven. First off the bread is spot on with the crusty exterior and the soft middle. It was jam packed with debris style roast beef and fully dressed. I needed a ton of napkins for sure. I had the 1/2 and it was plenty to fill me up. The roast beef was tender. not too salty, and juicy. Combine that with the tomato, pickles, and mayo and it is one delicious mess! My wife went with the 1/2 shrimp full dressed and it was just as impressive. The shrimp were cooked just right and very plentiful. We also tried the chicken and sausage gumbo. It was good but a little bland. All in all just writing this is making me hungry to go back. As I ate I kept asking myself why we don't have a po boy place this good where I live

    (5)
  • Tania H.

Yes! Go have anything there and you should love it... Even better get the fried crawfish!! OMG, the best I've had hands down! I am so happy a local took me there, because as an outsider I wouldn't have stepped into this place.... Best kind of hole in the wall!

  • Eagle N.

What a hole in the wall shack was my first impression. I am so darn glad I asked a local where they go eat at. He told me here and one more place. All I will say is darn darn darn I have had po boys but this is the best ever. so darn good I I ate here 2 days in a row. Roast beef as others said was oh so scrumptious and soothing to my palate. Now I am in La so I went for a oyster po boy one day for lunch with some rice and beans and gumbo. I had to let my belt out oh I was in heaven excellent is all I will say. Dinner I has a shrimp crawfish poboy and a oyster basket. I have never been so happy with two great meals in one say from same place. All I will say this is my place to eat if in this area again . Great and warm hospitality and oh some great food.

  • Karen R.

The food was awesome, and the staff was so friendly and courteous that we felt like we 'd been there many times before. Oyster poor boy was fresh and yummy, as was the shrimp poor boy. To cap off our great lunch we tried the bread pudding--it was fabulous and the meringue topping was a definite treat. If you are in the area, you have to try this place!

  • Luciana L.

My FIL took us here for lunch and this is the best po boy I ever had. As a previous poster mentioned yes this place is a crowded and noisy dump of a place but that's the ambience ... and u don't go to south LA and get a roast beef po boy! You gotta go for the seafood! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and the lady that took our order was so nice. We changed my daughter's order cuz we weren't sure what she'd like and the lady was all smiles about it. If it's worth anything, my daughter loved her catfish and fries!

Was in New Iberia and just HAD to eat at Bon Creole. Went twice. First time had a shrimp po-boy. If you haven't tried one of these at Bon Creole you're missing out. Can't be beat!!! Shrimp fall out after taking a bite to eat later. Second time had shrimp gumbo. Could've used more rice but was still fantastical.

  • Brian J.

I didn't expect a place like this in a town with only one Starbucks in it, but Bon Creole is really good. Everything is delicious and deep fried. Bathrooms here are clean which wins MAJOR points in my book! Yay you! I'd give it more stars, but the stuffed animals everywhere, and I don't mean plush (well I guess they are now) freaked me out slightly. It's hard to eat something when it's great aunt/uncle is looking you in the glass eyes.

I had the oyster po-boy...BIG and overstuffed with mayo, lettuce and tomato. A ton of delicious food for the money. Facility is clean and comfortable enough to sit and enjoy food and company. Highly recommend for lunch or fast dinner.

Don't let the outside fool you, this is an excellent lunch spot. Had the roast beef sandwich and was not disappointed. I'm looking forward to going back to try other menu options.

I cannot adequately put into words how exquisite the roast beef Po-Boys are at Bon Creole. This is definitely a candidate for my last meal on earth. The first moment I took a bite of this wonderland sandwich, my eyes started to tear up and I started laughing. All other Po-Boys pale in comparison. Why would anyone even bother eating anywhere else if they're within a hundred miles of this place? This is the kind of riddle that keeps me up at night. Order the roast beef with mayo and Swiss cheese. The wait takes a little while, because there are usually hoards of hungry Cajuns clamoring for a paper sack lunch, but it is infinitely worth it. In fact, the wait only makes it better. I'll tell you why: CHEESE MELTAGE. When I first beheld my Po-Boy, I noticed right away the roast beef was cut into small pieces, and the mayo and cheese had melted into this creamy, knee-weakening sauce. I'm almost crying at the sheer memory of it. It was that beautiful. The sensation of actually eating this Po-Boy can only be described as FOODGASM. I also ordered the gumbo, and I almost wish I hadn't, if only to be able to enjoy my Po-Boy in all its untainted glory. Don't get me wrong, the seafood gumbo here is extremely good, but it's not the spicy kind that makes me scream in taste bud ecstasy. The outside of Bon Creole is painted in a wildlife mural, and the parking lot is jammed with the cars of Cajuns either doing the overstuffed zombie-walk back to their automobiles, or the crazy-eyed mad dash to dunk themselves in roast beef nirvana. The inside doesn't allot for much seating, so get there early and cozy up to the jackalope or mounted deer heads along the wall. Why are you still reading this review? It's Po-Boy Mecca. There is nothing else you need to know. Go. Now. RUN. For the love of GOD!

This place has awesome food. From the outside you wouldn't guess it. A 12 inch mixed seafood po-boy fed my husband for lunch and then 3 of us shared the remainder for an evening snack. Great tasting and worth a visit, or two or three or more!!!

Best po' boys ever. Everytime I'm in Youngville visiting the in-laws we make time for a po' boy at Bon Creole. It does not get any better than this. The shrimp with all the dressing and some hot sauce and I am in heaven. Their other po' boys are delicious too, been 20 times and have yet to find anything to complain about because my mouth is in heaven!

Crowded and noisy dump of a place with waitresses yelling out names. Got the-roast beef poboy and not only was it messy it was tasteless. The beef was pulverized and the bread soggy. Don't know what everyone is raving about. First and last time. Wouldn't return on a bet!!

It was okay. I got the seafood gumbo. The gumbo was clear so I suspect it was seafood soup. I also had a half roast beef Po Boy dressed. It was okay. I won't go back.

This place has the best po'-boys in the area. Prices are horrible either. I make sure to take out of town guest here for a treat. Great bbq on Sundays.

I'm only sorry I had to choose between gumbo and a poboy. Next time I'm going back for the gumbo. Best shrimp poboy. As good or better than Parkview in New Orleans, and that seems sacrilegious. I'm going to need to take another trip to New Iberia, just to try the gumbo.

This place is so unassuming we almost missed it even with a GPS! Just look for the parking lot full of pickup trucks in front. We split a full-size Po-boy and and order of fries; way too much for us. Next time we'll skip the fries. The sandwich was great. The line at noon was long but moved quickly. Not elegant, just good food.

Get the roast beef po'boy. Get. It. Now. Great gumbo, too.

Wow, good gumbo (w/ rice & potato salad!), a po'boy plentiful w/ fried crawfish and a whole lot cheaper than anything in NO. Very cool little cinder-block hideaway.

Wow....if you are looking for quick, decently priced seafood in New Iberia look no further. I consider myself to be quite the po-boy aficionado and this ranks in my top 3. I got a full sized mixed seafood (shrimp and crawfish) with a cup of gumbo and talk about "eyes being bigger than your stomach". I could have easily been filled up with the half po-boy but I'm glad I ordered the full because I got to have leftovers. The shrimp and crawfish were both fried perfectly, the remoulade was excellent (creamy and a little tart) and the bread was very close to my liking. While the bread is not as good as Leidenheimer's (anyone who has been to Domilise's in New Orleans knows what I'm talkin bout) it still makes for a great vessel to transfer all of this fried goodness right into my food-hole. And the seafood (does anybody even order the chicken and sausage?) gumbo....hot-diggity-damn. Add a spash of louisiana hot sauce and you are immediately transported to cajun nirvana-valhalla...it was an outer-body-inner-mouth experience that I won't soon forget. I'm going there for lunch today. They "accept" credit cards but apparently their machine is somehow inexplicably linked with their telephone (don't ask how) and if they receive a phone call while they are processing your credit card it reboots so I would advise bringing cash.

There are few places that I have been to that actually epitomize what a cuisine is all about. This place is really a "hole in the wall". Old mural on the front, no windows and lots of stuffed alligators and deer on the walls inside. The menu is simple: gumbo, poboys, and other lunch counter standards with daily specials too. The key is that the quality is tres bien. The gumbos feel like that came from a Cajun grandmother's kitchen and the poboys are freshly fried with delightful french bread. This is typically the first place I go on my trips to New Iberia and the last place when I leave!

I would have never found this place had it not been for Adrian V.'s review. Perfect after a long drive along highway 182. Try the gumbo!
